Meat is not the only source of protein available. There are many forms of edible protein available. Some of the best sources of protein are beans (including soybeans), nuts, and fish. A lot of these can be added to your favorite recipes or be made into stand-alone dishes. To keep things engaging, add a few different types of protein to a diet.
Create and keep a diet that is whole grain high. Whole grains are a healthier choice every time, and will serve your body well when consumed instead of refined white breads. Replace white breads and pastas with ones that contain 100% whole wheat or another whole grain of your choice. Brown rice is also a great food that will add more nutrition to your diet. Eating whole grains will give your body all of the fiber that it is in need of, along with extra nutrients that is not found in refined carbohydrates.
Eat the colors of the rainbow! Vegetables that are bright in color are high in nutritional value and low in calories. Try to use a good mix of different colored fruits and vegetables in every meal. The skins are rich in antioxidant benefits, so if they are edible, be sure to eat the skins as well.
Decrease your salt intake. Most fast foods and junk foods have a lot of salt in them. Once you start to eat less salt from day to day, you will notice that you become more sensitive to its taste. Foods which are not healthy choices may suddenly seem too salty. You will find that you don't want it as often.
Substituting ground turkey in place of ground beef is an easy way to improve your diet. The turkey meat has far less calories and saturated fat than the beef. Only use white meat whenever possible, because dark meat is very similar to ground beef. Make sure what you're getting is genuine turkey breast, as some ground turkey packages mix turkey breast and dark turkey meat, which partially defeats the purpose of choosing turkey.
Keep tabs that you are getting the right amount of selenium in your current diet. A mineral called selenium is used as an antioxidant that can contribute to the elasticity of tissues, and helps prevent early skin aging. Selenium also helps to protect your skin from damage from the sun and free radicals. Tuna, eggs, Brazil nuts, wheat germ, and brown rice all provide excellent amounts of selenium.
Highly milled grains are not a good nutritional choice. It is the shells or husks of grains that provide most of their nutritional value; these husks are stripped away by extensive milling. Instead of buying a fiber supplement, just eat whole grains. No, it does not.
Nobody likes to feel deprived. Nutrition isn't about deprivation, it's about eating the right things more often and eating the bad things in moderation. The overall point of this article is that eating better isn't difficult, and there many simple things you can do to change your diet right now.
