Nutrition Tips For Anyone Looking To Get Healthy

October 15, 2014

You might think that nutrition is a simple subject, but anyone who has ever tried dieting can beg to differ. We are often products of our past and choose foods that we enjoyed or comforted us in the past. Unfortunately the manufacturing processes have changed and it takes a little more effort and knowledge to get the nutrition we need and desire. Eat plenty of fresh produce daily. The USDA says that at least 9 servings a day of veggies and fruits is essential. You might think this is a lot but it is not. Drink real orange juice at breakfast or make tomato pasta for spaghetti. Avoid too many microwave meals. These meals have lots of sugras and fats that are bad for you. To help yourself feel great, dedicate a portion of your time each day to cooking fresh vegetables and meat. One fantastic tip that can help with your nutrition is to use an artificial sweetener. Research has shown that sugar can cause a variety of health problems including heart disease. Instead, substitute artificial sweetners like Stevia or Splenda. The difference will be unnoticeable. Juices can be a great alternative to making your own fruits and veggies. You can get the same vitamins and minerals from fruit juices as you can from fresh fruits and vegetables. You should use a straw when drinking fruit juice because it can cause tooth decay. Even the people that eat the most healthy foods will enjoy a good dessert. When you make healthy choices, they can be equally as enjoyable. Fat-free yogurt has tons of calcium, and you can add some berries, granola, nuts and perhaps a little bit of cinnamon. A graham cracker or shortbread cookie crumbled on top of the yogurt would also be delicious.

Saturated Fats

Keep away from snacks that contain saturated fats in high amounts. This can include animal products and meat products, as well as foods with vegetable oil. This can include oils with even more saturated fat than many animal products. Consuming an excess of saturated fats will quickly result in unhealthy conditions in your body. Even if a food claims to be cholesterol-free, it can still raise the cholesterol level in your blood. Calcium is very important during pregnancy. Babies need calcium for strong bones and healthy teeth, and your body will give your fetus your calcium if you aren't getting enough for both of you. Vitamin supplements cannot make up for a very poor diet. These supplements are just that, supplements to an already healthy diet. It's best to keep your vitamin intake to one every day and keep yourself eating foods that give you all the nutrition you need if possible. Stock your freezer with lots of frozen vegetables. These are great to incorporate into any meal, easy to stir fry and serve as a side or as a main dish with chicken or beef. Having them frozen means that you will always have edible vegetables on hand. Just remember that you must commit to these personal nutrition goals along with the dietary ones. Avoid thinking about past failures because that will only leave your frustrated; instead, concentrate on eating healthy by incorporating the tips learned here to help give you that healthy lifestyle. Results will come to you in time. Jane Segal is the Merchandising Research Analyst for Salvere Health.
