You know you need to clean your makeup brushes and sponges but when it looks pretty clean, it's easy to forget. You might not forget anymore after you see what some girls found inside their BeautyBlenders. Eek!

Mimi discovered a really fascinating subreddit called r/makeupaddiction. In it, girls are cutting their makeup sponges, either Beauty Blenders or another brand's similar version, in half to see what's inside. Users doulikecookies and beauty_blend found super-old cake-y makeup inside theirs.

"I would like to know where am I going wrong! Is it the foundation (Revlon Colorstay)? Is it how I wash it?" user beauty_blend wrote panicking.

The general consensus in the thread is that yes, she's cleaning the sponge wrong. Using face wash or shampoo isn't enough to penetrate through foundation on a makeup sponge. You really should use the BeautyBlender cleanser or another brand designed specifically for sponges.

The grossest one? Blogger Amber who wrote an entire post about how her BeautyBlender "pooped." Amber explains in the post that she washes her sponge with the BeautyBlender cleanser but had noticed that it felt a little hard at the bottom. She decided to give it an extra thorough clean, but the water wasn't running clear. When she squeezed it harder, a hole opened up and what she calls "poop" fell out.

Of course it's just makeup that got stuck inside the sponge. Still, it's pretty gross.

You can avoid this from happening to you by making sure you wash your sponge after every single use, as annoying as that can be. And if you're just way too lazy skip the sponge and the new Silicon Sponge.

Here's why it's being referred to as the new BeautyBlender:

  1. This see-through, patty-like tool has a non-porous silicone surface (made out of silicone and encapsulated in a super-flexible material called thermoplastic polyurethane) that won't soak in your foundation, highlighter, or cream blush (yay, more for you!).
  2. Because of its smooth texture, you don't have to use as much product, and it's easy AF to clean because all you do is rinse it off with soap and water, and you're done! You don't have to wait for it to dry, nor do you have to wait until the water runs clear, like you do when you're cleaning makeup brushes — you literally just wash and go.
  3. It lasts longer than a makeup sponge; just replace it when it starts to look weathered.

Now, for the fun part: Watch the Silicon Sponge work its makeup magic, first with foundation and then with blush:
