Steps To Take To A Healthier You

May 18, 2014

Eating a helthy diet can be a smart move to make in your life. Dieting in a physiologically-friendly way requires a lot of thought and effort. If you're looking to start a diet, you've got a lot to learn about health and nutrition. Your daily intake of protein should come from various sources, not just meat. There are many forms of edible protein available. Nuts, tofu, beans, fish, and soy products all contain protein. These options can either be eaten as a side dish or even incorporated into the main course. You can keep your diet interesting by using a variety of different protein sources. To get yourself ready for the day, try having a bowl of oatmeal. Oats can fill you up and keep your stomach satisfied for a longer period of time.

Milled Grains

Highly milled grains should be minimized in any diet. However, getting rid of the husk of the grains eliminates a major source of fiber and other nutrients. Is it sensible to buy highly-milled grains and then replace the nutrients with supplements? Of course not. Make sure you eat in moderation throughout your day. When you consume too much fat or calories, it does cumulative damage to your overall health. This can be detrimental to your health as well as reducing your body's ability to process nutrients. You should use the amount of calories you've allotted yourself each day to fuel your body with good food. Eating 1500 calories of fresh vegetables, fruits and lean meats is much more filling and healthy than the same amount of calories in soda and fast food. The amount you eat is as important as what you actually eat. Make sure that your diet includes a sufficient amount of calcium. Examples of calcium-rich foods are dairy, leafy dark green vegetables, dried beans, nuts, soy milk and sardines. Calcium helps to build bone strength. If your body lacks enough calcium, you can develop osteoporosis, a condition where your bones become fragile. This painful disorder results in brittle, fragile bones which are easily broken but slow to heal. Try replacing ground beef with turkey for a healthier diet. The only disadvantage is a tendency to be less moist than beef. The dryness doesn't have to be an issue though, because all you need to do is simply toss in a little EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) with onions to the ground turkey to make the flavors pop a little bit. This helps you eat a flavorful meat with less fat. You have learned that a proper diet will require you to do some research and put effort into it to see results. If you want to keep seeing good results, you need to put sustained effort into your dieting. Once you learn how to maintain your healthy new lifestyle, you will enjoy your success for the rest of your life. Jane Segal is the Marketing Research Analyst for Salvere Health.
