By eliminating red meat you can start to lose weight. Red meat contains a lot of cholesterol and saturated fat which is harmful to your heart. Choose lean meats, such as fish, chicken, or turkey, rather than red meat.
Everyone loves french fries! It is important to avoid them if it all possible. If you crave the tastes of french fries, bake them instead of frying them. Cut potatoes into 1/2" fries, toss in a large bowl with 1 tbsp. of oil, sprinkle with salt, pepper and a bit of rosemary if you like, and bake in a single layer at 400 degrees for 30 min. Use a spatula to loosen any caked-on fries, turn them over, then bake them for another half hour. They taste great dipped in ketchup and have far fewer calories than the deep fried variety. Maintaining a low body weight is much easier when food consumption during the later evening hours is avoided. Avoid eating before you go to sleep. Food gets stored in your fat cells when you do this. Spend the hours before bedtime involved in some activity, and you will not be tempted to have a nighttime snack.
Add whole foods and grains to your diet to lose weight. You can either ask a professional nutritionist for info about whole grains, or ask his uncertified counterpart, Google. Do not buy food products that have the words enriched or refined on the labels. If a company is using whole grains, they will be sure to advertise that.
For a reward you can eat out at a nice restaurant. Just know that their portions will be larger. Before beginning your meal, request a take-out box from the waiter in order to put away half of your food; you can save it for a later time. If you do that, you will end up with two well-proportioned meals with the appropriate number calories: one to eat at the restaurant and one for lunch the next day.
Keep careful track of the calories you consume. Buy a notebook to jot down all the foods that you eat on a daily basis. Use this spiral notebook as a personal food journal. Write down what you're consuming, serving size, and the amount of calories in all food items that you consume. Doing so will make it easier for you to visualize your diet and identify areas for improvement in the quantity, type and content of the foods and beverages you consume.
Ensure the shoes you workout in are comfortable. Exercise can be hard on your body, especially if you are not supporting it with comfortable, properly fitted attire. These shoes do not have to be expensive. What you are looking for is a pair that fits well, feels good and provides adequate support.
One way to ramp up the challenge level of your fitness program is running on the beach. Pavement and grass are easy to run on because they don't offer resistance, while sand will really test your limits.
Give yourself rewards when you follow your diet plan successfully. If you're following your diet, it's fine to occasionally treat yourself to a single cookie or a bottle of your favorite beer. This allows you to enjoy a reward without feeling like you have failed. It just means you are aware that you are making progress with your plan to lose weight. Of course this does not mean that you should give yourself a reward with each meal, only occasionally when you reach a goal. Your diet should be a healthy new way of living, not a form of punishment.
Losing weight does not need to be a solo effort. If you have no one to workout with, there are multiple groups and online forums for people that need support. You might end up finding weight loss buddies that live near you.
