You Are What You Eat! Eat Better!

Changing your diet to incorporate more nutritious foods can greatly improve the quality of your life. Luckily for you, there are tons of nutritionist and dietitians out there that are willing to help you build a diet that works best for your body. You can "sneak" healthy ingredients into your regular recipes. This works particularly well if your children are picky eaters as it gets them to eat more nutritious foods. One example would be using powdered milk or pureed white beans for baking or blended drinks. These types of recipes add nutrition without subtracting from the appeal. People that study nutrition know that they need to cut highly milled grains out of their diets. By processing the grains, it removes the hull or husk and this takes away the nutrients. Doesn't discarding the hull, then fortifying it with additives seems like a roundabout method of getting proper nutrition from grains? This is an absurd practice. Trying to eat less red meat? If so, try using it as a condiment. It can be great for adding flavor and interest to dishes made predominately of grains or vegetables. Chinese and Mediterranean cultures do this and have lower rates of heart-related diseases. Sugar is known to lead to obesity if it is consumed too often, but calorie free sweeteners are a good replacement. Excessive sugar can result in many adverse health problems, like heart disease. Try using artificial sweeteners like Stevia or Splenda. You will not even taste the difference. If you do not sleep well at night, your nutrition may be part of the problem. Some foods can help you relax; however, other foods may increase your energy levels. After you eat, sit for a while or take a little stroll before lying down to sleep. Nuts can be a great diet food. Snacking on a small handful of delicious, natural almonds will give your body some of the fiber and vitamins that it needs. For people dealing with diabetes, an important thing to ask your physician is whether you should avoid alcoholic beverages. Diabetics should be careful since alcohol can lower blood sugar levels.

Raw Vegetables

Eat some raw vegetables if you are hungry, but it is not yet time to eat a full meal. They help to sate some of your food cravings without resorting to unhealthy salty or sugary snacks. The best part is that they require a minimum of preparation--almost as easy as opening up a bag of chips! They are also less messy than convenience foods. Raw vegetables can be a great bridge between meals during the day without messing up your diet. It is okay to cut yourself a little slack a couple times a month. This gives you the flexibility that you need in your diet and in your social life. Say someone in your family is having a birthday part, you can still enjoy a piece of cake and some wine. Regardless of why you want to improve your nutrition, it is important to get started as soon as possible. By following the right nutrition plan, your body will provide you with ample energy and strength to get you through your hard day.
